Honey Dates Ice Cream
>> Tuesday, August 17, 2010
I almost did not post this recipe here thinking that summer is going to be over soon and who is going to make or eat ice cream now. But then we had a couple of really hot days and out came the ice cream maker as well as the ice cream. My Cuisinart ice cream maker is probably one of the best things I bought this summer. I was debating buying it mainly because of lack of storage space in this apartment but I am really glad I finally bought it. I have been going crazy with it all summer! Once you get a base idea of how much milk, cream and sugar you need to make ice cream then its like an empty canvas out there to try out innovative combos of ice cream flavors – I still haven’t done anything supremely wild yet. Maybe, next year.
Honey Dates Ice Cream – The Recipe
| 1 1/2 cups whole milk 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 3/4 cup honey 1/4 cup sugar 1 cup chopped dates |
Prep the ice cream maker according to instructions. Mix together all the ingredients and pour into the ice cream maker. Run the ice cream maker for about 20 mins to half hour. Transfer the ice cream to a freezer safe box / container and freeze for a few hours to have a firm texture. You can also eat it immediately if you are like me!

I agree with your Cusinart assessment; also had the same dilemma of buying more electronic stuff and then finding storage! And it really works around a lot of recipes; love this one.
Don't put your ice cream maker away just because the weather has cooled down. When you are serving something substantial to your dinner guests, it's nice to provide delicious palate-cleansing sorbets between courses. Grapefruit, blood oranges, mint, Meyer lemon all make brilliant and tantalizing transitions. Whip up a Bloody Mary ice to make a great brunch even better. Try more-subtle ingredients - celery, shallot, rosemary, lemon thyme. Enjoy!
I don't think Ice-Cream belongs to Summer. At least to me I can enjoy them all year round. I get so disappointed when my favorite ice-cream joints close during fall n winter. This is truly a exotic ice-cream with gorgeous flavors. Love the second pic
OMG!! That ice cream looks amazing!! It doesn't matter if the Summer season is almost over....can have it anytime :P Good thing you posted it....
Whether it be summer or winter.. icecreams are always welcome :)

Jack - thanks for those ideas for sorbets. I havent yet tried making sorbets but some of them sound too good to not try making them :)
Thank God I found you talking about Cuisinart ice cream maker. I have been weighing my options and Cuisinart seems to be on favorable side. By the way that ice cream looks so good! And may be I'm a different tribe, but I love eating ice creams in winter. Cuisinart here I come !
